Possibilities for waterwheels (hydropower for >battery or other low-power devices ?) and other mechanicals I would be tempted to try and arrange one of those jets that produces a "rod" of water going across the pond. have several, each with a different coloured dye (see eBay link above for "starter" dye sets) and some UV Leds, and pulse the water for short enough periods you could seem to have different coloured rods of water stationary above the pond at different angles. Trouble would be you couldn't move the water fast enough to keep it stationary, and the strobing would be obvious.
