I've used this library before on several MPUs and it's a quality product: http://www.prllc.com/productcart/pc/viewCat_P.asp?idCategory=10 It's show as an AVR library [Dave VH ought to like that ;-)] but it's easily ported to any MPU with the resources and a decent C compiler. I've ported it successfully to the PIC18, MSP430, Rabbit and ARM families. At about $30-40 a pop, the hardware based ALFAT or DOSonCHIP is probably okay for a one-off but the fairly low cost and no-royalties of the PRLLC library starts to look real good at just a few units volume. Hmmm, I just checked the site and see they've raised the price to $199 since I purchased the library a few years ago (I think I paid $139). That said, I'd still buy it at $199 as it's very solid code, full featured and well documented.
