I think you have the same problem I had. You need this
to control the contrasr of the display.

This is a simple voltage booster done with a 12F675 but
you can control the voltage level and the contrast with
pint UP and DOWN. If you need I can get you the C code.

I'm using this to generate 26V from 5V.
