The December 2006 issue of Nuts and Volts has an article on P48 called "Build an East-West Compass". While I'm not really interested in this project, the article states that the definition of magnetic N and S are reversed in France, relative to the rest of the world, so that, for example, the "N" pole of a French bar magnet attracts the "N" pole of an English or German bar magnet. I have a hard time believing this because, among other things, the definition of magnetic poles is intimately connected with the direction of current flow through a wire. Are the French mostly left-handed? Can anybody authoritatively confirm or deny this supposed difference regarding magnetic pole definitions? -- *Carey Fisher* -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
