No driver required? >> It's not that no drivers are required, it's just that the drivers for certain common usb->serial converters are already included. For that to happen, you need to have both the correct chip AND you have to tell the OS that you're one of the recognized serial converters rather than some strange vendor with some strange device. (Unless there is some way to tell the OS that you conform to a particular driver spec even though you have an otherwise unrecognized USB ID?)
