In fact, you are > just obscuring the code. But assuming reasonable libraries, your old chip-specific assembler now runs on an entirely different platform, which is far from "useless." Any additional intelligence in converting to "human-readable" C is MORE useful, but if you're really in a corner, the straightforward translation might be a big help.
