Group, I am involved with a collegiate team that is developing a hybrid electric vehicle. As part of that effort, we are using an 300V dc lithium ion battery pack that contains 80 cells in series. We are investigating new options for monitoring the voltage and temperature of each individual cell. Ideally, we would like to have this system communicate over CAN to the vehicle controller which would then make decisions about the health of the battery pack. Looking long term, we would also like the system to have the ability to charge/discharge individual cells to balance the entire pack. That's not necessary at this point, but would be nice. Does anyone know of any commercial units that might accomplish this task? If not, anyone have any good insight on designing one? Obviously, isolation of this system from the rest of the vehicle electronics is a must.
