Untitled DocumentI'll put this under [AD] as I'm asking for money. Copy of what I've sent to friends This is a long way from home but it just may be that some well heeled person is interested in the health of NZ males. Absolutely no arm twisting. Just thought people may like the opportunity (Yeah right!). Actually [AD][WOT] :-) Russell _____________________________________ Summary: "Sponsorship" requested to support moustache growing in support of prostate cancer and general men's health issues. Each year in NZ about 600 people die from breast cancer - most are women. A very few men also get breast cancer. Each year about the same number of people, all men, die from Prostate cancer. While awareness of breast cancer has been justifiably increased in recent years with national campaigns and publicity, much less is said about Prostate cancer and related male health issues. An international movement has been formed to try and change that. Part of the campaign is the sponsored growing of moustaches during "Movember". To find out when Movember is (although it should be obvious) read on. November has been 'renamed' "Movember" and (mostly male) participants grow moustaches as part of an awareness and fundraising effort. Participants invite friends and family and any random strangers they can persuade to sponsor their moustache growing for the cause. More details on the NZ efforts are available here http://www.movember.com/nz/home/ and other international sites can be accessed via here http://www.movember.com/. A while ago I had "health issues" which lasted for some months and which lead the experts to suspect that I may have prostate cancer. It turned out that I didn't, and after suitable treatment everything came right again. But it was a sobering experience which raised my personal awareness levels. Movember aims to similarly increase awareness levels without any of the unpleasant side effects except for a small hole in our wallets. My son Iain has registered as a Movember participant and at the start of the month he invited me to join him. I said "ask Val" and he did and she said 'yes', so I too now have a mo'. I've never been a great liker of moustaches growing on my face, although over the years the odd (sometimes very odd) shaggy beard has been known to develop. Frankly it's a bit of a nuisance, and Val is not overly impressed with it, and I'm inclined to shave it off. HOWEVER in the interests of Movember and men's health, if YOU will sponsor my objectionable facial hair then it can stay put until month's end. I'd like promises of $NZ50 minimum to keep it sprouting - so please send in promises of support to help keep me and Val uncomfortable. I don't have Iain's registration number and he's away until next week, but if you email me with a promise of funds I'll send the registration number and details of how payment can be made "online" when he gets back. If I get emailed pledges for at least $50 within the next week the mo can stay. If not the mo' dies and I'll pay the difference between $50 and the pledges I receive myself. More than $50 promised and you get to see a picture of the mo - should you want to :-). Keep them cards and letters and pledges rolling in folks ...
