You might consider just pre-recording the messages for playback, with a device like the Winbond ISD1420 ChipCorder and family. Pretty simple to control, and not too expensive either. Recorded speech is usually more intelligible than synthesized speech, and if you're not changing the messages often it's no more work. -- Timothy J.
