Incidental to the main gist of this article -
They say that China has about 388 million mobile phone users and that 
two major pre-paid services have 200 million of these. As is clear 
from the general topic they don't and can't discriminate between 
phones and customers so actual people with phones is less than this. 
Still an impressive market penetration all things considered. Would be 
interesting to know what percentage of the country has coverage. I'd 
suspect that major cities account for  a large proportion of the 
coverage.
