Nitpick: He was in the RCAF, so strictly he was flying for Canada! :-) The poem, "High Flight", is well known among pilots, and will be found on the walls of very many flying clubs, often over a background of a Spitfire in the middle of some aerobatic manoeuvre or other. It's very moving, especially for anyone who has flown - it strikes a chord beautifully.
