The Propeller can easily handle better than 20000 Baud in SPIN doing asynchronous serial transfers.  SPI transfers (like done by SHIFTOUT) should be faster.  In assembly, the Propeller can transfer well in excess of 1M bits per second in either mode (asynchronous or synchronous).
