What I do is label the reels/tapes with a fine-tip marker, then sort the parts into decades. In other words, the 4.7, 47, 470, 4k7, etc. resistors go in the same bin. In addition, I keep them in E12 order, so the 1.0 and 1.1, 3.3 and 3.6, etc. E24 decades end up in the same compartment.
