Plenty of jets in the military over all. Very few assigned to defend our country. The idea that the purpose of the Department of Defense is to defend the country is a common misconception. The purpose of the Department of Defense is to push other countries around. Our own country is not very well defended, because "what idiot would take on the USA?" And this was most likely the thinking that lead up to 9/11. --- James. > -----Original Message----- > From: piclist-bounces@mit.edu > [mailto:piclist-bounces@mit.edu] On Behalf Of Gerhard Fiedler > Sent: 2006 Oct 02, Mon 12:16 > To: piclist@mit.edu > Subject: Re: [OT] 9/11 live: the NORAD tapes > Importance: High > > alan smith wrote: > > > living by an air base.....believe me...there are way more > than 14 jets... > > Armed, ready to take off and do something besides training > flights?
