Do I need to stock up on hobbyist bits and bobs LOL ? Is there an equivalent to RS components over there ? - I know that Jaycar exists and Dick Smith is much like Maplins now (more of a toy store for cheap chinese imports than electronics component supplier) Chris -----Original Message----- From: cdb [mailto:colin@btech-online.co.uk] Sent: 28 September 2006 11:56 To: PICLIST@MIT.EDU Subject: [OT]It can be frustrating ordering components Some time ago Dick Smith Australia had a special offer on some Piher rotary encoders, since then they've cleared their stocks. DS New Zealand, still has some, so I promptly ordered some, only to discover it is shop stock only. Helpfully DSNZ are sending me an automated update each week telling me they are on backorder. It is obvious that these are an end of line, so you'd think some genius would say ' wait a minute chaps, we're not selling many through our shops and here we have an internet order, lets consolidate and clear some of our slow moving stuff '. I would order from Mouser in the US, but they've recently gone barmy with international order pricing and are demanding U$36.00 - which incidentally still makes them cheaper than Farnell (who are also deleting this item) taking into account the item price difference. What is it with electronics suppliers and their enormous P&P costs - Rapid in the UK will only export with minimum order of GBP175.00 and then charge an astronomical amount for P&P as well, as for Maplin, well don't get me started there!. Rant over!!! Colin -- cdb, colin@btech-online.co.uk on 22/03/2002 -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
