Well, I was there just last summer. There is no equivalent 
public transportation here like you may be used to from Europe
Do you have the option to rent a car? I think that would be your 
best bet.

Someone who lives there can hopefully provide better details but
I flew into Orlando, rented a car, and drove to a hotel in Cocoa
Beach. I recall that was just under an hour (I think). So from
Tampa it maybe two hours driving?

can be deceptive on a map. Miami is one the order of 370 km from
KSC, whereas Tampa is maybe 200 km.
