I know that the Captain (Mal) played a bad guy in Buffy. Which of the
other characters played roles in which other shows?

I did like the end scene in Serenity.

If you liked the movie, watch the show. It can be bought or rented. And
there is a lot of background that couldn't make it into the movie. In one
of the shows there was a scene that came close to the barroom brawl scene:
everybody was rescuing Mal and River glanced up at the baddies that had them
pinned down from the catwalk, grabbed a gun she'd never practiced with,
closed her eyes, and shot them dead with one shot apiece.

How she did this was explained in the movie.
