If you get desparate, you can ask this sort of question on
the rec.arts.sf.written newsgroup.  It's a high volume newsgroup
with a lot of opinions and noise, but they are VERY good at
identifying "stories you read once", often from far less info
than was given here.  It's like watching an idiot savant...
