I mean the hardware design. The firmware and software are continuously improved by the folks inside Microchip. Alternative software for Linux (as well as Mac OS X and even Windows) are actively being improved by people like Jeff Post (pk2), Mark Rages (pyk) and Nicolas Hadacek (Piklab). I am not so good at developing software so that my role is more a testing/supporting roles in those projects. I believe Microchip will release the firmware and PC application source code soon. No, I am not working for Microchip. I used to work for Pepperl+Fuchs' Singapore branch. I used quite some low end PICs in the previous job. However my PICkit 2 activity is kind of "hobby" since it is not really job related. Now I am working for Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) Singapore and I will develop Distributed I/O product (http://www.ab.com/io). It seems to me I will not use PICs in the foreseeable future. However I will continue to learning from the PIC resources like PIClist and Microchip Forum. I will of course continue to like PICKit 2.
