I use FinePrint (fineprint.com) as a "virtual" printer between programs that print and the actual printers. I do that for a long time and never had any problems; it seems to be accepted by all programs as a printer. They also have a pdfFactory printer driver that works similarly. Both look just like a real printer to the application, intercept the output, and allow it to be post-processed and/or saved to file (FinePrint saves to TIFF or a proprietary format, pdfFactory saves to PDF). I've never used it with DRM material, but I'd be surprised if it didn't work.
