I acquired a couple of nice 5 phase steppers, and am looking to build
drivers for them.

They are low inductance, 10 wire, 5A per phase.

Is it feasible to drive these by connecting the windings as a star,
and connecting each of the 5 legs to a half bridge (with PWM current
cuntrol)?

Is there a PIC that will drive 5 PWM half bridges? (I think the answer is no..)

I'm trying to avoid having to build 10 H bridges, with a total of 40 mosfets.

Also, what are the pros and cons of connecting the windings as a
pentagon vs a star?
