It is a Tssop28 device with MANY features, including 6/12/24Mhz clock output, internal EEPROM to install your own text "Wouter WISP666 USB Programmer", etc, and an advanced bit-banging scheme that actually appears to work. Its not expensive, either, and has a WONDERFUL driver that has no errors. Linux version, too. As far as the application is concerned, the FT232R is seen as a VCP serial port. I've done two successful commercial products with it in 6 months.
