According to a medical show on Chinese medicine here that was run 2 -3 year back, most of the causes of the ringing in the ear are not in the head nor in the ear. Noise in the ear is the result as the ear is an organ sensitive enough to pickup the imbalance (EE term = oscillation). They originate from weak organ - kidney and region around there. They can be cured or improved through routine massages and heat treatment on the body. I am no Chinese physician, so don't take my words seriously.
