I think I have got it: He would like to modify the table declared with DATA. If that's true, you can't do that. With DATA you create a contant that sits in the program memory (Flash ROM), so that you have to move it first into the RAM (does not matter if it's static or dynamic, it's the only RAM you have inside the PIC). So if you need to modify the text you have to move it into a temporary space. If you need it for permanent basis, so that you need that modified data after you switch off your device, you have to put it to the EEPROM.
