Hi, I seem to recall someone asking about this a while ago, but I can't find the relevant thread in the archives... I want to build a few small USB devices that plug directly into the USB port. To do this, I need to get some PCB-mount USB Type-A plugs. These are the type of plugs you normally see on Flashdrives and USB Bluetooth adapters (and so forth). While nearly all the suppliers I've tried stock Type-A and Type-B sockets (i.e. the standard host-side and device-side connectors), nobody seems to stock Type-A plugs. Maybe I'm just feeding Digikey's search engine the wrong keywords or something, but I didn't see anything when I searched earlier, nor did I find anything in the actual catalogue. I'm also going to need some small cases for these devices - if I needed enough, I could probably get a couple CNC or injection-moulded, but I only need a couple (half a dozen or so). So far the best idea I've come up with is to buy a couple of broken Flashdrives, desolder the USB connector and steal the casing. The problem being that broken Flashdrives seem to end up in the bin, and new ones aren't cheap when you're just gutting them for parts. Does anyone have any better ideas?
