They were a flat capacitor that fit under a dip package with leads sticking out at pins 7 and 14, or 8 and 16, or whatever. The leads were narrow enough to go through the circuit board hole along with the chip lead. Since the whole flat package was the capacitor, the lead length and ESL was very low. I used those in the 1970s and 1980s.
