A lot of "advanced technology" fails to meet the snob-appeal requirements of "the rich." Of course, it depends on what you mean by "rich"; if you're talking about anyone with a couple thousand a year in disposable income, that's a much broader class of people than "millionaires." There's lots of ways to get in the former class (DINKs, for instance, or merely deciding that you're rather have some of that high-tech stuff than that ski vacation.)
