If it is just the controller board, then you can do that, but you have to get the exact same version of the hard drive. I don't mean just a WD400, you have to get the same Rev number as well. The Rev number is on the hard drive label to the left of the bottom bar code, it probably says something like Rev A01 or A00. It may just be the protection diodes on the board that blew. They are usually right behind where power plugs into the board and are yellow or black squares (I think they are yellow on the WD400). If they are cracked then sometimes you can just replace them. Although, as soon as I got the data off the drive, I'd toss the drive. Let me know what the rev number is and I can probably drop one in the mail to you. I've got a stack of old Dells that are about to be surplused and I know they had WD400s in them. _____________________________________________________________ Cris Wilson Information Resource Consultant College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities Clemson University cris@clemson.edu To report problems email: aah_computers@clemson.edu -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
