Note that I said "appropriate", rather than "allowed". I agree with your statement regarding opinions (everyone is entitled to one). And my opinion is, the implication that a discussion on a controversial topic is a waste of time, allegedly because the participants will retain their original views, is wrong. Some of the discussions on this list prompted me to do further research, and on a couple of occasions, change my views. I'm sure it's the same for other people as well. However, this is becoming a two-way conversation, so you can have the last word.
