Hi Guys, I live 55 miles from work, my car takes me from the front of my house to th= e front of my office in arround 1 1/4 hours to 1 1/2 hours. Because of the = fact I hate driving I tried the public transport. I have a walk from home t= o the train station of around 15 minutes, an average 3 hours jorney by trai= n ( do to change overs and so on), and then have to walk another 15 minutes= to my office. That costs me =A325 a day, which is half what it costs me to= fill the tank on my car. On that tank my car even with the way I drive las= ts roughly 3 1/2 days (it's a diesel). I can not afford to move closer to work at this point as I live in a cheape= r part of the country and work at one of the most expensive ones. I love my= job so I do not want to get another one. Now, I can live with walking 30 minutes a day but what I can not live with = is the money wasted and more importantly the 6 hours of my life that I woul= d lose commuting. I agree we should do what we can to stop polution, but unless the governmen= ts come up with practical solutions, and the important word is practical, p= eople will not do it. Fully integrated transport that is not set up primarely for profit but to p= rovide reliable transport solutions is the way forward. Until then I will continue to use my car and have no problems with it. I did so for some of years (folding bike, free on the train, so the bike served at both ends of the trip).
