About 20 miles by road. Roughly 16 as the crow flies.

Outbound (to uni):
15 minutes walk to the train station, about half an hour on the train (plus 
5-15 minutes between trains), 10 minutes walk. Usually just over an hour in total.

Inbound (coming home):
10 minutes walk to the train station, half an hour on the train, bus from the 
train station home (less walking!). Total of about an hour, depending on how 
many %#$*ing buses go right past the stop without, um, stopping.
