Most of the time I use a high enough speed so that the desired baud rate can be hit closely enough. The only "baud rate" crystal frequency I use regularly is 7.3728MHz. This happens to be the highest commonly available crystal to run a PIC 30 with 16x PLL. The maximum allowed for that would be 7.5MHz, and this is only 1.7% slower. Using a baud rate multiple is also more important than it would otherwise be for that application since the PIC 30 doesn't have "high speed" UART mode like a PIC 18 does. This means a full speed PIC 18 has better baud rate resolution than a full speed PIC 30. ****************************************************************** Embed Inc, Littleton Massachusetts, (978) 742-9014. #1 PIC consultant in 2004 program year. http://www.embedinc.com/products -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
