By "std 110" I presume you mean American mains sockets? :-) There is already a standard for low voltage DC at the seat (a real standard, with the connector, voltage and current availability specified, and how it will react in an overcurrent situation), but most airlines don't fit it in Cattle Class, so those of us who pay for our own flights have to rely on batteries. Also, some laptops won't power up without a battery in place.
