Thanks for that.  It just shows how fast these things move - I did Google it before I posted, and there were no hits then!

It looks like it's a 16F917 prototyping board, with the '917 soldered on (I think it reads "44 pin demo board"), which isn't high on my 
list of desireables, but I'd like to see a bit more about it before I decide.
