In that case the explosive was pre-mixed (and apparent quite unstable) and hidden in another bottle. It's not a huge problem to hide one liquid inside a bottle of another, especially shampoo (coloured bottles) or Gatorade or Coke (coloured liquid). Fill a condom with the explosive (or ingredient) and drop it in. Won't get spotted in a casual inspection. X-ray won't spot it. Hair gel or hand creme sets off the sniffers anyway, so hide it in there. (Failed a bomb test a while back - got asked if I handled either of these recently.)
