Looking on the Microchip web site today, I noticed a new PICkit 2 product:  "DV164121 - PICkit 2 Debug Express"  for the same price as the 
"Starter Kit".

The description doesn't really say much about what you get, but the photo shows the PICkit 2 itself plus a board which isn't the Low Pin 
Count demo board, but the picture isn't big enough to see what it is.  Shipping date is the 1st of September.

I've tried searching the MChip web site, but it doesn't give any hits on the part number - I find this is often the case, annoyingly.

Anyone know anything about this?  (Xiaofan always seems to have more information on PICkits that the Microchip web site! :-)  I was about 
to buy another PICkit2, but this has caused me to wonder if I should wait a few weeks and get this bundle instead.
