They are available, I know we have one around here > for testing some CAN stuff. There are quite a few CAN interfaces around. We use USB-to-CAN interfaces for ease of use (no opening the case). You could create a virtual driver that looks to the software like a parallel port and uses the CAN driver API to send the commands. This may be easier than creating your hardware device.
