I had already thought of that one... BUT knowing the history of this
particular client, as soon as I provide them with something they will
immediately run out and try it somewhere it was not meant (per original
specifications) to work.  In this case, the current system is meant for
"laboratory" with a somewhat controlled environment.  They have asked
about light industrial applications.  Ethernet over power lines doesn't
seem like a good mix when you could have single and multi-phase motors
kicking on and off nearby...

Hadn't considered optical though but, the "clear-line-of-sight"
restriction would also be abused in a light industrial setting...
