I have a Cruizer Sycon 1Gb USB microdisk (the one cheap small and
plastic package). It works ok a while till failed to write and read at
more than 512K (509K in user area + 3K in restricted area).Formatting
does not help.

So probably those flash drivers from Ebay are not fake, just defective.
