Since I got my driving licence I've driven about 750,000 miles, in over a dozen countries on three continents, on both sides of the road, and I still feel like I've had a major achievement whenever I drive in Manhatten without being involved in a collision! :-) And unlike in LA (and in the UK) it seems that in NYC pedestrian crossings seem to be advisory as far as traffic is concerned - cars tend to nose their way through crowds of crossing pedestrians!
