Some of the phancy encoding methods are The responsible email formatting is a very vague term. One man's responsible formattin is another man's absolute nightmare. I, for example, prefer line length not truncated at 80 chars, but as a single line per paragraph. Sometimes I like to read email in smaller window and it will wrap text to 64 chars/line. If there are newline chars after every 80, it looks ugly and hard to read. Maybe instead of forcing an arbitrary formatting it would be more convenient to let people (or their mail clients) to do any formatting THEY like?
