I can't remember which machine (of two possibles) I used for the ARP / PING procedure - one runs under Win2k, the other OS/2, and neither of them have that entry now, so at least one of those versions of ARP doesn't keep it across a reboot! And as soon as I'd followed the procedure, other machines on the network could see the device, so I believe the PING causes the device to start using the included IP address (the ARP obviously doesn't affect the device itself).
