In the connection properties, Settings tab, there is a radio button that allows you to set that "function, arrow and ctrl keys act as terminal keys" (which seems to be the default). That should do the trick... just hit Ctrl-Q Ctrl-D for . IMO Hyperterminal doesn't quite deserve the badmouthing it receives. I don't use it myself a lot (as there are better alternatives), but I've found that most what people claim it can't do it can do -- knowing how to do it.
