Your count has the same uncertainties as mine when looked at up close 
;-).

I'm about certain now that that photo is of the successful Australian 
1986 run.
They did tow 100 people successfully for over 1 mile.
Having exactly 100 shows some confidence in the skiers.

The Canadian attempt to better it in 2000 failed!
The "Klondike Express" catamaran and towing arrangement that they used 
looked similar but not identical.
They found out that the boat didn't have enough power to pull that 
load at towing speed.

Sounds like something I should tell the local super-cat people about 
:-).
Auckland, "City of Sails", sometime and to be future home of the 
America's Cup, yachtsman's paradise, etc etc ad nauseum,  is the 
natural place to hold such a record. In the summertime we sometimes 
get Orcas under the harbour bridge (but, alas, I've never seen them 
when they are there).
