I general, the 430 seems to be a general 16bit von-Neuman architecture part, somewhat more pleasant to program than most 8 bit chips (including PIC and AVR.) However, in my case, the hardware-friendliness and pricing of the PIC and AVR (drive current, packages, group buys on PICList, etc) have caused me to neglect the 430 after my initial interest. (and not having a need for extremely low power consumption.)
