It could be significant that it's specifically related to medical equipment. There was an incident in Canada around 10 years ago where a disposable colonoscope was being reused after being sterilized. The doctor noticed brown material on it before using it so he didn't. When it was tested there was live bacteria found on it. Plastics can't be properly sterilized, and certain medical devices should not be reused.
