I actually picked up a pack of the Energizer 2500mAh AAs from Maplin the ot= her = day - mainly because they appear to be Sanyo rebrands ("HR" stamped on the = negative contact plate and "Made in Japan" on the label). They were =A39.99= for = four, or =A319.99 with the charger. The charger itself looked fairly well m= ade - = shame the charge rate was locked at 2A. I've got some Kodak 1600mAh AAs = (suspected to be Sanyo rebrands for the same reasons as the Energisers) and = I've yet to find a charger that will work properly with them... I've had chargers that cut off too early (poor quality voltage-delta detect= ion = circuitry), one that had a pass transistor short out (16V and 4A over the = cells - ruined my only set of Sanyo-branded AAs), and a few that just plain = didn't work. I actually wanted to build a "reflex mode" charger, but it was too much lik= e = hard work. Switchmode constant-current is so much easier, and I can't find = any = positive evidence that reflex charging has any benefit. Come to think of it= , I = couldn't find anything that said it was a bad idea either... I think I need to try and get a few 16F683s and the ICD header to play with= . = Seems they'd be perfect for driving the SMPSU. I would have used an 18F1320= , = but all mine are of the 'won't execute code worth a damn' variety... Half a = dozen of them - that'll teach me to read the errata before I buy any more P= ICs...
