OK, so the programmer uses the "crystal" oscillator
option in the processor. That's just OK.

Depends on how you program the CONFIG.
If you've told the PIC to use a crystal, you need it.
If you've told the PIC to use the internal oscillator,
you do not need it...

Read the data sheet !

Where have you read that ? *No* Pic has any crystal
built-in. Some (quite many actualy) has an "internal
oscillator". Again, read the data sheet.
