I found that pretty rude, especially after receiving the (apparently
valuable) information where the requested information can be found. Not
actually writing the words in the message doesn't change much IMO if they
are cited in such a form.

That didn't sound to me as a /real/ "sorry" -- especially considering that
if one actually were sorry, that would have been the time not to send the
message in the first place. Sounds strange to send a message where one
feels compelled to write in the message that one is sorry for the message.
