I find myself reponsible for a rather messy and arcane motion control system, with the option, depending on system cost and engineering costs, of replacing the existing system. Replacement is good, since we're spending almost as much time hacking on the existing system as would be required to make a new system work. Plus, we've exhausted the resources of our current controller and would like to add some more functionality to the product, which ain't gonna happen with the current setup. This is my first foray into the wild world of motor control. Sage words of wisdom? Good websites which provide a minimum of sales pitching and a maximum of information? Recommendations for solid products (2-axis, fairly low precision (~+/- 2mm repeatability), ~US$1000-$1500 per unit (qty 60/p.a.), easy to program (C?))? We've had our first look at Yaskawa; seems good, but more research is to be expected.
